“The Internet of Things assures automation and data exchange. This will change our future and the way we work and live.”

Have you heard this before?

I’m sure you have.

IoT refers to a network of physical devices, home appliances, and all kinds of appliances that are used with sensors, electronics, connectivity, etc to improve connection and data exchange.

The IoT provides a platform for people to connect these devices and control them with big data technology. This in turn will further effectiveness in performance, economic benefits, and minimize the need for human involvement.

The development of IoT is one of the most important developments of the 21st century.

Additionally to technology like sensors and environmental meters, the “things” can include everyday objects like a washing machine, light switches, or cars.

These objects are equipped with sensors to collect data and internet capability to share knowledge.

It is this ability because of which we call the devices “smart.”

After years of hype, prediction, and steady uptake, the IoT seems assured to cross over into conventional business use.

Do you know why IoT is changing the world in remarkable ways?

We all are influenced heavily by digital technology. Due to modernization and technological developments, it is safe to say that the IoT plays a prominent role in our lives.

IoT has created an ecosystem that links many systems to give intelligent performances in every task.

The escalation of the IoT has created a new evolution of cell phones, homes, and other embedded applications which are all connected to the internet.

They have flawlessly integrated human communication in ways we never expected before.

IoT devices can filter out important information using commands to give us the required output. It can do so based on data analytics and also enables to share of the data on the cloud.

Several businesses around us are transforming promptly in many ways, thanks to the IoT.

Businesses that use IoT services have increased from 13 percent in 2014 to about 25 percent recently.

The statistics show that the worldwide number of IoT-connected devices is set to increase to 43 billion by 2023, which almost a threefold increase from 2018.

States and governments have realized the potential gains of smart devices and many have started integrating them into existing infrastructure.

IoT significantly increases productivity. It already has by as much as 0.2% of GDP.

Most of these benefits are relished by manufacturing businesses. This makes it the sector with the largest opportunity from using IoT.

The potential gains for businesses in developing countries are essential: enterprises already save 4–5% of costs with the relatively low distribution.

One leading smart city is Barcelona. Barcelona has been working with Cisco since 2012 to implement IoT across its entire city.

Governments can encourage further economic growth. Appropriate policies can stimulate IoT adoption by businesses — this can sharpen their countries’ business sector competitiveness and result in higher tax revenues.

Now that you know of the basic background of IoT in real life and why its development can change everything, I’m sure you want to know what companies are using the IoT?

Many industries such as Eddie Stobart Transport and Logistics Company, Amazon, Dell, Aviva, German Auto Manufacturer Daimler, the John Deere Company, and Walt Disney Land are all utilizing the Internet of Things technology to monitor various activities and advance their existing systems.

For example, top healthcare providers like Naya Health make use of IoT devices to improve medical services. They do so by inventing better products at a quicker pace with low maintenance costs in the manufacturing processes.

The system of running businesses in a manual manner is now not seen as very relevant. IoT has now taken over businesses and made the functioning of things easier and smarter. It provides high convenience for each task and hence increases overall efficiency.

IoT is regarded as the frontier that can improve almost all activities in our lives.

The devices which were previously not connected to the internet can now be networked and made “intelligent” in the same way as smart devices.

By 2025, the world is going to be on the path to becoming almost completely IoT-oriented.

[4]

IoT is one of the key technologies on which the development of the world depends.

The faster we learn and adapt, the faster we will reap the benefits of this complex and intelligent companion, that is, IoT.
